Liao Ning province in Northern China was the original home of this unusual jade toggle. It is hand drilled in the back so that a cord can attach the toggle to the owner’s belt. Toggles served as feeling pieces and as good luck charms. Jade toggles were particularly popular in old China due to their protective properties. We believe that our toggle was carved around 1700, but it may be earlier.
