A
“kang” is a Chinese bed or sleeping platform that
was sometimes heated with pipes coming from the kitchen stove.
Small pieces of furniture were often placed on the bed. This kang
table is such a piece. It would be used for reading, writing,
eating, etc. This red lacquer piece was originally made in Shan
Xi province around 1870. It has been restored. This piece measures
45” long x 12.25” deep x 16” high. The back
of the piece is not lacquered.
