Hats such as this one were called “three face” hats due to the two faces on the hat and the face of the wearer beneath. They were worn by little boys for special occasions. This is a frog hat. The top face includes the frogs 4 legs and a long, bright blue embroidered tongue. The hand embroidered hat is made of silk. We think that this hat is probably from the late 19 th century.
