The Miao people, an ethnic minority in China, live in the southwestern part of the County. They made quilted hats such as this one for use in the winter months. It is composed of quilted cotton with an appliquéd pattern on the sides and back and embroidered panels on the front and top. This hand made hat was probably produced in the early 20 th century. We also have Miao summer hats in our warehouse.
