This very special porcelain ink stone was made in the Qing dynasty around 1720. It is painted in an underglaze colbalt blue. A scholar would grind his ink stick on this stone while adding drops of water until he obtained the correct thickness for calligraphy. Our ink stone measures 4.25” in diameter.
