Simple, hinged boxes such as this one were used as desk top receptacles to hold ink, brushes and other supplies. Our black lacquer coated wood box is decorated on the front with a gold, floral motif. It was made in about 1860 and was found in northern China. The box measures 16.25” long x 6.5” high x 8+” deep.
